  • Day 18 2012 {Minnie Mouse}

    Day 18 2012 {Minnie Mouse}

    Okay, so it’s a little late in the day, but it’s not over yet. Stella has been hit with a terrible rash that has covered almost every inch of her body from her cheeks to the tops of her feet. We thought it was beginning to heal today, but it looks like it’s starting back up. Most likely an allergy, but as of now, it’s a total mystery. That is partly why we have been posting late these past few days and choosing costumes that cover most of the body. By the way, she doesn’t seem bothered by it at all, or else we would take a break from Stellaween.

    Today we have Minnie Mouse. We tried to use the ski mask but it was just too scary looking. It’s cute out in the snow, but here it’s sort of creepy. I still have to post a picture of it. But in the middle of shooting, I realized this couldn’t be the final look. So I quickly grabbed last year’s super homemade ladybug antennae and shortened the stems, though you can’t really even see them in the photo. And then grabbed an old, wrinkly scarf to make a bow. It was very haphazard, but still cute. Oh, and no, I didn’t put makeup on my child with this outbreak. I cheated and added the black nose while post processing. We’ll try to get back on track again this weekend=)

    And here’s the one that resembles a crazy bank-robber=)

  • Day 17 2012 {An American in a Russian Rocket}

    Day 17 2012 {An American in a Russian Rocket}

    I saw this last year in the clearance sale and thought it was absolutely ridiculous.  So of course I bought it.  It was only four bucks and they’re back on the racks again this year for $30.  I think it’s obvious, in the last photo, that Stella is aware of how goofy she looks.  Since we are currently hitching rides on Russian shuttles, I decided to try and make her look American and added the Russian flag to the rocket.  Let’s keep it simple and not worry over the fact that they don’t actually ride in the rocket. I’m trying to not let the specifics get the best of me.

    Working really hard on that hitchhikers thumb.

    I think she’s really beginning to question the purpose of Stellaween here.

  • Day 16 2012 {Curious Georgia}

    Day 16 2012 {Curious Georgia}

    I really wanted to get my tall, skinny dad to be the Man in the Yellow Hat from Curious George.  It would have been so funny!  Oh well…bygones.

    This snuggly monkey suit was passed down from our friend BayLea.  It’s a perfect costume for a chilly night of trick or treating.  I kind of want one in my size=)

  • Day 15 2012 {Izzy}

    Day 15 2012 {Izzy}

    This is Izzy, a character from the show “Jake and the Neverland Pirates.”  Stella was very excited about this one.  She told me she needed a yellow necklace and wanted Twiggy to be Captain Hook.  I wasn’t even going to attempt that one.  And when I pulled out the pink shirt, she said “No, that has polka dots!” She’s right. Izzy wears a solid pink shirt.  I think I’ve created a monster here.

  • Day 14 2012 {Tanning Mom}

    Day 14 2012 {Tanning Mom}

    I hate to choose an individual person like this, but she was one of the best tabloid stories of the year! If you don’t know her, please google “tanning mom” immediately.  I should mention that the original tanning mom has stopped her excessive tanning and looks much better now.

    The bow is not just something Stella already had on.  It’s purposeful. This lady wore them.  Notice the tanning bed winkies on her “daughter’s” eyes. Tanning mom was accused of putting her daughter in a tanning bed. Stella’s favorite part was getting to put on lots and lots of makeup.

  • Day 13 2012 {Catwoman}

    Day 13 2012 {Catwoman}

    In retrospect, maybe this one was a little much for a two and a half year old. A little black tutu may have “kiddied” it up a little. But I think she still looks cute. We borrowed a little from several different Catwoman looks. There have really been so many! I didn’t want to permanently mark on the bodysuit, so I cut tiny pieces of mailing labels to stick on and resemble the stitches from Michelle Pfeiffer’s version. It would have been much easier to just mark on the thing and buy a new one if needed. The mask is from Target’s One Spot, but would be super easy to make with felt. And the whip,which a toddler with a whip is super dangerous by the way, is just a jump rope spray painted black.

    She totally reminds me of my mom in this one. I think it’s the expression.

  • Day 12 2012 {Punk Rock Grrrls}

    Day 12 2012 {Punk Rock Grrrls}

    Watch out, these are a couple of tough, in your face, punk rockin riot grrrls! Stella and I were at the thrift store recently and came across this little kilt.  It looked finer than the usual ones so I checked the label only to find that it was made in Dublin.  Had to have it.  Then in shoes, we came across this pair of brand new, never worn Doc Martins!  She’ll wear these anytime, but I figured they would also make a fun costume as well.  We cut holes in the tights and cut up a white shirt.  Markered in a brash anarchy symbol and added a couple of safety pins and band pins. For detail, notice Stella has in a (fake) lip ring and black finger nails. Now go listen to your favorite punk band and have a nice day.

    This face cracks me up.

    The Holier than thou punk.

    Had to show the side view of Twiggy’s mohawk.

  • Day 11 2012 {Elliott and E.T.}

    Day 11 2012 {Elliott and E.T.}

    E.T. is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary this week. Tell me that’s not scary. I can’t believe it’s been that long! Anyway, we saw this costume in a Halloween parade last year. Definitely a perfect parade costume, being on a bike and all. I thought I still had my old E.T. doll from childhood and we would recreate the costume, but on a tricycle. Well, turns out old E.T. isn’t around after all. Still determined, I had to make him out of a stuffed dog toy, some pantyhose, doll eyes and my lack of artistic skills with a Sharpie. Under the towel I added a little flashlight using the red light feature.

    I hope that my E.T. creation isn’t too kindred to the Spanish lady’s Ecco Homo “restoration.”

  • Day 10 2012 {Doc McStuffins and Lambie}

    Day 10 2012 {Doc McStuffins and Lambie}

    Today Stella is a character from another one of her favorite shows, “Doc McStuffins.”  She’s a little girl wanting to grow up to be a doctor like her mom.  Her stuffed animals come to life and she’s their little doctor. As we were watching it one day, I noticed that we already had every single item needed for a costume. I had to paint an old, broken stethoscope and add Doc’s signature heart band-aid. I cut some foam into a flower to glue-dot on the headband. And of course added Doc’s little freckles with some brown eyeliner. Twiggy is Lambie, one of the stuffed animals from the show. As we were getting ready, Stella told me that she wanted to be Lambie. Go figure. She also pulled her “I think you’ve got enough” line after taking quite a few photos. She was right=)

    She love’s playing doctor!

    Time for a check-up!

    “Umm, that didn’t sound quite right:/”

  • Day 9 2012 {Halloween Girl}

    Day 9 2012 {Halloween Girl}

    I guess today is sort of a filler day, or some may say tacky day.  We just took all sorts of random items to put this little outfit together.  That shirt was less than a dollar in after-season clearance. The headband is from last year, as is the apron, which is folded under. Those little star tights are currently at Target.  I think they’ll be cute for Halloween and after.

    I think she was actually jumping here, but it looks like she’s saying “Not another picture, Mom.”
