  • Day 10 2012 {Doc McStuffins and Lambie}

    Day 10 2012 {Doc McStuffins and Lambie}

    Today Stella is a character from another one of her favorite shows, “Doc McStuffins.”  She’s a little girl wanting to grow up to be a doctor like her mom.  Her stuffed animals come to life and she’s their little doctor. As we were watching it one day, I noticed that we already had every single item needed for a costume. I had to paint an old, broken stethoscope and add Doc’s signature heart band-aid. I cut some foam into a flower to glue-dot on the headband. And of course added Doc’s little freckles with some brown eyeliner. Twiggy is Lambie, one of the stuffed animals from the show. As we were getting ready, Stella told me that she wanted to be Lambie. Go figure. She also pulled her “I think you’ve got enough” line after taking quite a few photos. She was right=)

    She love’s playing doctor!

    Time for a check-up!

    “Umm, that didn’t sound quite right:/”

  • Day 9 2012 {Halloween Girl}

    Day 9 2012 {Halloween Girl}

    I guess today is sort of a filler day, or some may say tacky day.  We just took all sorts of random items to put this little outfit together.  That shirt was less than a dollar in after-season clearance. The headband is from last year, as is the apron, which is folded under. Those little star tights are currently at Target.  I think they’ll be cute for Halloween and after.

    I think she was actually jumping here, but it looks like she’s saying “Not another picture, Mom.”

  • Day 8 2012 {I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart}

    Day 8 2012 {I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart}

    “I want to strum my guitar and yodel-lay-hee-hee”

    This represents the classic Patsy Montana song.  It’s one of our favorites to sing while on the road. I bought this costume for about $3 last November.  Stella has on hand-me-down cowgirl boots and we dressed up the plain hat just a little. The amazing part to me is that she was a little sick when we took these pictures.  I don’t think I’d mind being sick that much if I still had the energy this one has while being ill!

    We put Twiggy in there for a second. She’s got on the head piece of Stella’s old cow costume. Poor, poor Twiggy.

    I think Stella looks like a country singer taking a break and storytelling in this one.

    Gotta do a little tuning.

    “Thank you folks! And good night!”

  • Day 7 2012 {Bye Bye Big Birdie}

    Day 7 2012 {Bye Bye Big Birdie}

    As I mentioned on FB, this is all in good fun, so I do hope this doesn’t offend anyone.  I bought the costume during an after-season clearance thinking that I would have a year to come up withing something cute or clever to add to it and make it our own.  Absolutely nothing came to mind. Well, not until this week’s presidential debate anyway.  I have to thank Mr. Romney for making Big Bird relevant again. I couldn’t post this costume without some sort of nod to the debate or I would have looked like I was living under a rock.  But let it be known that Stellaween is just here for laughs and costume ideas. We really have no political intentions here.  Like most two year olds, Stella doesn’t even know who Romney is and barely knows Big Bird.  Now had he said Elmo, well that would have been a whole different story.

    By the way, it’s not all store bought and pre-packaged. I just opened the bag this year only to discover the head piece was missing.  But that one was so easy to recreate.  I cut craft foam for the bill, used markers on foam balls for eyes and added a little feather clip hairpiece.  I couldn’t get over how lucky we were on the socks.  They’re at Target on clearance in the women’s socks department. Go get you a pair!

  • Day 6 2012 {The Witch and Her Little Dog Too}

    Day 6 2012 {The Witch and Her Little Dog Too}

    The witch is my favorite out of the classic Halloween characters. Growing up it’s all I ever wanted to be. Stella got into this one as well, so again I was left with the difficulty of choosing a favorite. She’s doing her witch cackle in several of the photos below. There’s one where she’s got her hands up and saying “I’ll get you!” And I had to include the one where she’s fixing Twiggy and trying to get her to sit still.

    This was just a little store bought costume I got for a couple bucks after Halloween last year. We added an old cape we had to Stella’s and used the costume’s cape for Twiggy.

  • Day 5 2012 {Super Stella}

    Day 5 2012 {Super Stella}

    SUPER STELLA is here to save the day!!!  Before she was born, her dad wanted to name her Crimefighter. Seriously.  By the way, there is a celebrity child out there with that name.  Obviously he didn’t get his way, but today she is his little crimefighter.

    She was hamming it up big time for this one, so I couldn’t quit shooting.  After about 5-10 minutes, she said “Okay, that’s enough.” And began to disrobe. But I was left with too many favorites, so I couldn’t pick just one shot for today.

    The mask and cape are just a little dress up set she had.  The boots came from a cowgirl costume.  Old leotard and tights. Wrist cuffs from felt and those Christmas stars on wire.  And yes, I’m aware that I need help in my lettering.  It’s a pretty bad excuse for an S, but Super Stella didn’t seem to mind.

  • Day 4 2012 {The Dumpster Diver}

    Day 4 2012 {The Dumpster Diver}

    A little play on words for today’s look. Okay, so maybe this one was better in theory. Plus I’m not huge on the impractical costumes, but this was original so I’m posting it anyway. She’s actually in there looking for random things to make more costumes and evidently yelling at fellow divers to scram!

    I painted the box, printed out the dumpster company label, attached some trash and added graffiti because what dumpster is complete without it?  Fins made out of craft foam and a little store bought snorkel set to complete the outfit.

  • Day 3 2012 {Kai-Lan}

    Day 3 2012 {Kai-Lan}

    Ni Hao! (Pronounced nee haow and is hello in Mandarin Chinese.)

    Sometime last year Stella had developed an obsession with the show “Ni Hao Kai-Lan.”  My friend Kat gave her the Kai-Lan wig for her birthday so I knew then it would be a Stellaween costume.  I cut the sleeves off a blue shirt, glued a couple of red felt hearts on and wound some yarn around an old earring for the necklace.

    Here Kai-Lan is appearing with her friends Tolee, Hoho, and Rintoo.  While shooting this, Stella kept singing one of the songs from the show “We’re Going to China.” I guess she was getting into character.

  • Day 2 2012 {La Fiesta!}

    Day 2 2012 {La Fiesta!}

    This one is relative to real life.  I’m pretty sure Stella thinks that Twiggy is an actual piñata. Of course, Twiggy don’t play that!  While the costumes are rather simple here, getting a 2 1/2 year old and a dog both in costume to pose is anything but.

    The cool thing is that Stella is now taking part in working on the costumes….sort of anyway.  She walks up and says “I wanna help.” She of course has her own methods, but that makes it extra fun.

  • Day 1 2012 {Ghostbusters}

    Day 1 2012 {Ghostbusters}

    Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!!! That’s actually one of Stella’s favorite things to say, so we had to do the costume. Super easy too! T-shirt with black felt attached for ghost face. I have tons of white tulle leftover from our wedding, so I made a no-sew tutu out of it. I’m obviously not good at cutting circles, but tried my best to make the “no” sign out of cardboard and then spray painted it red.

    And I had to include this other shot because of the random monster face she’s making.
