    Day 31 2012 {Glinda the Good Witch}

    Are you a good witch or a bad witch?  That is the question you know!

    Well, the big day has finally arrived!  I hope everyone has enjoyed this year of Stellaween. We certainly have, but I’m looking forward to getting our house back in order and not covered in costumes.

    Our last character is one we all know well. She’s Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The dress is one of those little princess play dresses we picked up at a consignment shop. I ripped the Sleeping Beauty cameo off and added every gemstone, piece of broken jewelry, and foam star we had. I also added a big Christmas tree ornament.  It would have been better to have had the butterfly, but maybe next time. The dollar store carries these little so-called “skirts”, which I decided would be better to add as the giant flutter sleeves. To make the skirt stand out wider, she slipped on the Ghostbusters tutu. The crown was made of sparkly craft foam, glitter glue, Christmas stars, gemstones and a necklace. But the most exciting part of the dress is that it twinkles! I attached some twinkly LED lights. They carry a small battery pack of them at Hobby Lobby. Not that great for pictures, but very fun for Stella to wear.

    Here’s a low-light version so you can see the lights.

    I decided to add a quick video to view the twinkles in all their glory. I’m clueless as to what I’m doing with video so I had to upload via youtube and I don’t know how to remove the sound so unfortunately you’ll get to hear my voice.

    I also want share these two photos that Rob took of Stella while I was setting up one day. I think they are so sweet.

    She wanted this little bear to be in the picture too.

    And while we’re at it, I’ll go ahead and post a few from our pumpkin lot trip. Stella was sick the day her class went to the real pumpkin patch, so yesterday we made a quick trip to a nearby church to buy one.
    She loved the mini pumpkins the most.

    You may thinking “That’s so cute, she’s trying to lift that big pumpkin.” But no, I think she was holding on for dear life due to the insane winds that we’re experiencing. Remember this is Hurricane Sandy time.

    Alright folks that’s it for this year. We wish you a Happy Halloween from our family to yours!

  • Day 30 2012 {Vintage Clown}

    Day 30 2012 {Vintage Clown}

    This is Stella’s actual Trick-or-Treating Halloween costume. I custom ordered it from a little shop on Etsy. Check them out at FWCreations4All

    I just think it’s so classic and sweet. Two of my childhood friends had costumes very similar to this one year. I always look back at those photos and think they looked so cute. Before Stella starts demanding to be a princess, I decided I would dress her in this. I’m in love with the collar! And obviously I’m still perfecting my balloon animal skills=)

  • Day 28 2012 {Monster Under the Bed}

    Day 28 2012 {Monster Under the Bed}

    Only three more days left! Today we took one more break from the costuming and just worked around Stella’s Halloween gown.  It says “I’M NOT AFRAID OF THE DARK.”  I think the actress inside came out more than ever here. I told her to act scared and there you have it. Or maybe she really was scared of that monster hand.  Doubtful.

  • Day 28 2012 {The Circus Girl}

    Day 28 2012 {The Circus Girl}

    This one is special to me because Stella is wearing one of my old dance costumes. When we got it out, it still had the same smell I remember all of our costumes having when we first got them back in dance class. Oh the nostalgia. We added some old feathers to her head and dollar store clip-on earrings. I tried to use real cotton candy, but all I could find was the mass packaged stuff at the store, which just didn’t look right. At the last second I remembered I had a roll of pink soft tulle. It was perfect! After the photos I decided to put Twiggy in the spotlight for a second. You’ve got to have a circus poodle!

  • Day 27 2012 {The Creepy Little Girl}

    Day 27 2012 {The Creepy Little Girl}

    Today was less about costume and more about being just not right. Rather awkward and a little creepy. A friend of mine gave Stella that doll, which was her mother’s as a child. Stella absolutely loves it! The bloody knife makes a third appearance. Next time you walk down a dark hallway, I hope this photo will provide you with the fear that a little masked girl and her danger doll are waiting for you. Bwahahahahaha=)

  • Day 26 2012 {Bride of Chucky}

    Day 26 2012 {Bride of Chucky}

    Oh horrors! This is Tiffany. For those unfamiliar, she is a character from the movie Child’s Play 4: The Bride of Chucky. I’ve always wanted to be her for Halloween, but never did. I guess I’m living through my child on this one. I must say that applying all this eye makeup on a toddler is for the birds!  That was a horror scene in itself! But doesn’t she look like a cute little psycho old lady? Makes a mother proud. We used the no-sew tutu from the Ghostbusters costume, a lace romper from my photography prop box and the cute little biker jacket that I got earlier this year at the consignment shop. The bloody knife made another appearance as well.

  • Day 25 2012 {Coal Miner}

    Day 25 2012 {Coal Miner}

    Last spring Stella picked this hardhat up in the thrift store and I gave in thinking we’ll use it for Halloween. She knows my weaknesses. I really wish we would have found an old school lunchbox and thermos that day. Those would have completed the look of a hard-working miner on lunch break. We got a second use out of the cop shirt. And at the last minute I realized she needed a pick.  I spray painted a wrapping paper tube and attached some cabinet liner. It’s close enough.

    I was torn between the color and the b&w.

  • Day 24 2012 {Kitchen Nightmares on Elm Street with Freddy Cruller}

    Day 24 2012 {Kitchen Nightmares on Elm Street with Freddy Cruller}

    Get it? Because of the cooking show “Kitchen Nightmares”  and then a cruller is a type of pastry. Yes, this is the epitome of cheesy but sometimes I just can’t help myself. Poking fun of scary things is a great coping mechanism so I thought what’s scarier than baking in the kitchen? Ha, seriously I’m not a good cook so it’s frightening for everyone. Freddy adds the comic relief. The apron and hat are both from Hobby Lobby. They were on sale for just $2 each! I’m hoping I can do something cute with the apron for Christmas just to get extra use out of it. I painted the stripes with a puffy green fabric paint and the hat was done with brown and black markers. I also turned her oven mitt inside out and used a brown marker on it and then added craft foam for Freddy’s crazy knife nails poking through. She was getting into this one. Probably because more doughnuts were involved. I also want to thank my awesome husband for shooting this while I stood on the side trying to keep red icing off our carpet. Oh and yes, our favorite little monster, Jason, is hanging out in the oven.

    “Welcome to my kitchen!” Looking a little more jolly in this one.

    A little behind the scenes action before we started.

    This was just a test photo Rob took, but I like it.

  • Day 22 2012 {The Tao of Pooh}

    Day 22 2012 {The Tao of Pooh}

    An awesome friend and client gave us a few of their old costumes and this sweet little Winnie the Pooh was among the loot. I was going to do a picture with a jar of honey but decided to do something a little different, so we re-created the white jacket version of the book The Tao of Pooh.  I think it looks pretty close.  The coat was a little bit of a struggle.  The only yellow coat I could quickly and cheaply find was this windbreaker from the Goodwill.  I untied a dollar store Christmas bow to make all of the red trim.  It’s just stuck on with glue and safety pins. A yellow swing coat or raincoat certainly would have been a better alternative. Stella was very excited over the kite.  She’s going to be disappointed if she actually tries to fly it though.

    In case you are not familiar with the book, here’s what the cover looks like.

  • Day 21 2012 {Officer Stella}

    Day 21 2012 {Officer Stella}

    Looks like  Officer Stella is taking a quick break down at the doughnut shop.  I was excited to get to use my great grandfather’s old Linton police badge, though that thing is heavy and really weighed down the shirt, but it was authentic so we went with it.  My college roommate and I found the hat on the street many years ago and I just always held onto it.  It came in handy today. I got those adorable little sunglasses for Stella at the Children’s Place over the summer. Handcuffs were from the dollar store. But I think the doughnuts really make the uniform and I’m pretty sure Stella thought so too;)
